About the Artist

Robert Scott

I'm a self-taught photographer who first picked up a camera almost ten years ago. With my photography, I want to turn the familiar to the unfamiliar--to reveal the ordinary as being just as mysterious as the unknown. My goal is not just to abstract but to reveal, to invite the viewer to look again. I feel I have been successful if the viewer, upon closer inspection of my works asks "what am I looking at?" Of course, my answer is only one idea.

I was born in Poughkeepsie, New York and raised in Westchester County. I am a graduate of Macalaster College in St. Paul, Minnesota. I earned my MFA in Creative Writing from American University in Washington D.C, where I also taught for many years. In 2002, my wife and I moved our family (back) to Massachusetts, where I taught writing at UMASS before retiring in 2012.
